Muhammad Najib al-Rubai ( Arabic: محمد نجيب الربيعي ) - Iraqi statesman. On July 14, 1958, he assumed office as the first president of Iraq; on February 8, 1963, he was removed as a result of a military coup.

Biography
Born in 1904 in Iraq (province of the Ottoman Empire ). Together with Abdel Kerim Qassem took part in the July 14 Revolution . The coupists offered to surrender to King Faisal II and his regent Abdel Ilah. The king and his whole family left the palace, each of them holding the Koran over his head. While they were leaving the palace, Lieutenant Abdel Sattar al-Abosi opened fire without orders and shot almost the entire royal family. Faisal II died later from his wounds in the hospital where he was taken. After these events, Abdel Kerim Qassem took up the post of Prime Minister of Iraq, and Najib al-Rubai became chairman of the Sovereign Council. During the coup on February 8, 1963, Abdel Qasem was killed and Najib al-Rubai was removed from his post. In 1965, Muhammad Najib al-Rubai died.
