The reservoir is formed by a dam on the Prospect Creek . [1] The surface area is 5.25 km², the average depth is 9 m, the largest is 24 m. [2] [3]

The first dam, built in 1888, was an earth mound , the first of its kind in Australia. The goal was to collect water from the river Nepin . Since May 1940, the water through the aqueduct began to flow into Sydney. Since 1996, the water in Sydney comes mainly from Varragamba , and the Prospect reservoir is used more often for recreational purposes. [four]
