Content

History

The collection of the Art Museum began to take shape in 1895 as an art section of the historical and archaeological museum of the Simbirsk provincial scientific archival commission . After the revolutionary events of 1917, the museum included nationalized collections of Simbirsk nobles, industrialists, merchants: V. N. Polivanov , E. M. Persie-French , A. V. Zhirkevich , V. P. Mescherinov, N. Ya. Shatrova [ 1] .

In 1920, the museum became independent. It was originally located in the former house of the landowner Percy-French (now 59 Lenin St.). In 1932 he was transferred to the Monument House to Goncharov, occupying the second floor of the building (on the first floor is the Ulyanovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore named after I. A. Goncharov ) [2] .

In the 1920s – 1930s, the museum was actively replenished with monuments from the State Museum Fund, the Pushkin House of the Academy of Sciences, and the State Hermitage Museum [3] .

Current Status

Currently, the museum funds have about 11,607 storage units [4]

The museum funds contain unique collections of Russian and Western European paintings, sculptures, drawings of the 16th – 20th centuries [1] .

Among the masterpieces of Western European art that determine the originality of the collection are the works of outstanding masters of France, Spain, and the Netherlands of the 16th – 17th centuries: N. de Larguillera , Ya. V. Skorel , H. de Valdes Léal , K. Keynink, D. Teniers .

The pride of the museum is the paintings by D. Levitsky , F. Rokotov , V. Borovikovsky , K. Bryullov , A. Ivanov [1] .

A unique collection of manor portraits created by serf masters of the Simbirsk province. The department of arts and crafts contains antique ceramics of the 4th — 3rd centuries BC. e. , porcelain of Russia, Germany and France, art furniture, Russian and Western European glass. The museum has significant monographic collections, without which it is impossible to fully imagine the work of K. Bryullov, V. Khudyakov and such Ulyanovsk artists as A. Plastov , D. Arkhangelsky.

Branches

  • A. A. Plastov Museum (16 Goncharova St.). Opened in 2010 [7] . The building was built in 1913-14. according to the project of architect A.P. Maksimov for Simbirsky first higher elementary school [8] . The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the People's Artist of the USSR , laureate of the Lenin Prize laureate (1966) and the Stalin Prize of the first degree (1946) , full member of the USSR Academy of Arts Arkady Aleksandrovich Plastov , a native of the village of Prislonikha, Simbirsk province.

In his activities he is guided by the following objectives:

  • storage of genuine works of A. A. Plastov, D. I. Arkhangelsky, V. V. Kiselev, N. A. Plastov;
  • storage of a unique bank of documents, photographs, letters reflecting the history of life and creative activity of A. A. Plastov, D. I. Arkhangelsky;
  • the function of a cultural institution using modern museum, educational, enlightening, tourist technologies;
  • Acting as a center for providing advisory assistance to museums operating in the Ulyanovsk Region on issues of exposition and educational work related to the life and work of A. A. Plastov.

Exhibitions:

  • "BUT. A. Plastov - the great Russian artist ”(more than 50 genuine works of A. A. Plastov);
  • “Images of the Homeland” (more than 200 genuine works by A. A. Plastov from the collection of the artist’s family, documentary photographs of Prislonih residents by N. A. Plastov, the son of the artist; personal items from the workshop of A. A. Plastov).
  • Museum of Contemporary Art A.A. Plastov (st.L. Tolstoy, 51). Opened in 1992 on the basis of the art gallery "V. I. Lenin in the fine arts ”, which existed since 1970 [9] . It is located in the former mansion of Baron H. G. Stempel, built in 1905-1906 by the architect A. A. Shode .

The permanent exhibition includes: art of the early XX century, Russian avant-garde , Soviet art of 1930-1980, an exhibition of works by A. A. Plastov. The museum holds at least 10 exhibitions annually. There are several directions in the exhibition work: exhibitions of Ulyanovsk artists, conceptual exhibitions and exhibitions - versions from the collections, exhibitions from other museums, cities and countries. Annual concerts are held, the most popular are “Summer Assemblies in the Museum”, “Plast Seasons” [10] .

  • Museum "Manor of the People's Artist of the USSR A. A. Plastov" ( Ulyanovsk Region , Karsunsky District , village of Prislonikha). Opened in 1988. Located in the building of the Board of the former collective farm. M. I. Kalinina, where Arkady Aleksandrovich Plastov worked for several years as a clerk of the village council and Secretary of the Combine [11] .

Authentic items from the artist’s workshop are placed in the windows: his palette , tubes of paints, varnishes, root sculpture, various art objects and brushes of the master. Nearby is a sketchbook, a folding camp chair and a large linen umbrella. At the museum’s exposition one can also get acquainted with the working albums of A. A. Plastov, filled with his drawings, sketches [12] .
