Career
Wimbledon
After completing his studies at the Wimbledon Academy, at the beginning of the 2001/02 season, Michele Leigertwood arrives at the disposal of the main team. But a young and inexperienced player could not even gain a foothold in the role of a substitute, so he first went on loan to the club of the second football league , Leighton Orient , where his professional debut took place in November 2001. In total, the player spent eight matches in the club from East London . At the end of the season, he returns to Wimbledon and holds the first match for this team against Barnsley , which ended with the defeat of Wombles with a score of 1-0. Subsequently, Leigertwood managed to gain a foothold in the base and played for Wimbledon 65 matches, scoring 3 goals.
Crystal Palace
The rapid progress of the young football player did not go unnoticed. In January 2004, he became a player at Crystal Palace Club. The amount of compensation for the player amounted to 155 000 £ (180 000 € ). In the remaining 10 matches, Michele helped the club win the right to participate in the English Premier League . In the 2004/05 season, he spent 23 matches and scored a goal against Tottenham Hotspur . However, the club took only 18th place and flew to the Championship .
Sheffield United
After the contract with the “Eagles” was completed, the player joined the Sheffield United club, who from the second place went to the Premier League and was looking for gain. Michele Leigertwood had the status of a free agent, but since he was under 24 at that time, the club had to pay a compensation of £ 600,000. The contract was designed for 3 years, in spite of this, already next year Lagerwood again changed the club.
Queens Park Rangers
In August 2007, it was acquired by the Queens Park Rangers Club. In three years of playing in the hoops t-shirt , the player took part in 141 matches and scored 12 goals. However, at about the same time, the club was bought by Formula 1 promoter Bernie Ecclestone and now the former head of the Formula 1 Renault team Flavio Briatore . Their investment in the club gave rise to a “train leapfrog” (6 Ch. Coaches changed in three years), as a result of which, on March 1, 2010, CRC was led by former Crystal Palace club coach Neil Warnock . Under him, Michele Leigertwood fell out of favor and was leased to Reading .
Reading
In November 2010, Leigertwood, on loan, moved to Reading. After a series of good indicators, club managers decided to extend the lease until the end of the season. The player scored his first goal for Reading on January 29, 2011 against the Stevenage goal as part of the FA Cup . A week later, Michele Leigertwood scores his second goal at Cardiff City . The match ended with the score 2: 2. In May 2011, it was reported that Reading signed a three-year contract with the player, and on June 1, when the summer transfer window opened, Michele Leigerwood officially became a Reading player. In the 2011/12 season, Leigertwood took part in 42 games and scored 5 goals in them. According to the results of the season, the “Royalists” won the Football League Championship in England and entered the Premier League . Leigertwood's first Premier League match for Reading took place on August 18, 2012 against Stoke City and ended in a 1-1 draw.
International Career
Coach of the national team of Antigua and Barbuda Willy Donachi invited Lagerwood to the national team back in June 2008 for the qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . However, then the player was forced to refuse due to his own wedding. Nevertheless, he got a chance to prove himself internationally. On October 28, 2008, in a match against Birmingham City , Lagerwood got a red card and missed the next four matches. During this ban, he agreed to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the 2008 Caribbean Championship . He made his debut for the national team on November 5, 2008 in a match against the national team of Trinidad and Tobago , which ended in the defeat of Antigua and Barbuda 3: 2. He scored the first goal for the national team in the next match against Guyana . After this championship in his career for the national team stopped briefly.
