The dimensions and shape of the case of the Hexar RF automatic rangefinder camera repeated the dimensions and shape of the German cameras of the Leica M family ( Leica M3 ). The camera is equipped with a TTL - exposure meter and focal shutter (metal louvres) with electronic control. The lens mount is a copy of the Leica M mount (the mount had the “brand name” KM Konica ).

Specifications

  • The type of photographic material used is a film of type 135 (including with DX encoding ).
  • Frame size 24 × 36 mm.
  • The body is cast from aluminum alloy, the upper and lower panels are titanium , the hinged rear wall with a hidden lock.
  • Shutter motor cocking and film rewinding, automatic simplified charging.
  • Automatic electronic frame counter (liquid crystal display).
  • Rewind the film with a motor drive (power button on the left side of the camera).
  • Mounting interchangeable lenses - the KM Konica mount is a copy of the Leica M mount , compatible with other lenses with this mount. [2] [3] [4]
    • It is possible to use M39 optics through an adapter .
  • The viewfinder is combined with the rangefinder, the base of the rangefinder is 65 mm. Automatic parallax compensation.
  • In the viewfinder's field of view, the dual frame-limiting frames for lenses with focal lengths of 28, 35, 50, 75, 90 and 135 mm are automatically switched (when changing the lens or manually):
50 mm vs 75 mm
28 mm vs 90 mm
35 mm vs 135 mm

Automatic frame switching is determined by the design of the Leica M mount .

  • Viewfinder eyepiece magnification 0.6 × .
  • Photographic shutter - digital electronically controlled focal with vertical movement of metal lamellas. Without batteries, the camera is inoperative.
  • Shutter speeds from 1 to 1/4000 s and “ B ”, shutter speed head on the top of the camera. In automatic mode ( aperture priority ), shutter speeds are from 16 s to 1/4000 s.
  • Thread for trigger cable .

The camera is controlled by a multi-position switch located on the top panel:

off - the camera is off, the LCD display shows the battery charge (if any).
single-shot - single shooting, cocked shutter indication.
continuous - continuous shooting up to 2.5 frames per second.
self-timer - electronic self - timer (delay up to 10 seconds).
  • Synchronization exposure - 1/125 s, central sync contact “X”.
  • Clip for attaching flash units and interchangeable viewfinders, automatic flash units (with TTL exposure metering not supported).
    • For sharing, the HX-18 automatic flash was produced.
  • 1/4 inch tripod thread.

Auto Exposure

The Hexar RF camera has an automatic exposure setting ( aperture priority ) using the TTL - exposure meter . Light measurement - on the diaphragm closed to the established value.

The exposure meter power supply is two batteries.

The head of input of photosensitivity of a film is combined with input of exposure compensation of ± 2 EV . Shutter speed or aperture priority mode is entered by a separate head. The light sensitivity values are 25 - 5000 ISO (in manual mode), using the DX code - from 6 to 6400 ISO. Information on the worked out shutter speed is displayed in the viewfinder's field of view.

It is possible to turn off the automation and manually set the shutter speed (including being guided by the readings of the exposure device). In automatic mode, the shutter speed adjustment knob is fixed against accidental rotation.

Konica M-Hexanon Lenses

Konica M-Hexanon Lenses: 28 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm.

For Hexar RF cameras, Konica originally launched three lenses with a Konica KM mount : with focal lengths of 50 mm, 28 mm, and 90 mm.

Subsequently, in 2001, M-Hexanon 2/35 mm, [5] and M-Hexanon 1.2 / 50 mm were released (only for the 2001 collector's edition).

In 2002, a 3.4-4 / 21-35 mm M-Hexanon zoom lens was released. [6]

  • M-Hexanon 21-35 mm f / 3.4-4
  • M-Hexanon 28 mm f / 2.8
  • M-Hexanon 35 mm f / 2
  • M-Hexanon 50 mm f / 1.2
  • M-Hexanon 50 mm f / 2
  • M-Hexanon 90 mm f / 2.8

Production of M-Hexanon lenses was discontinued with the end of the release of the Hexar RF camera (2003).

Other Konica Rangefinder Lenses

Konica produced interchangeable lenses for rangefinder cameras with a M39 × 1 / 28.8 threaded mount.

1950s:
  • Hexar 3,5 / 50 tube (folding)
  • Hexanon 1.9 / 50
  • Hexanon 1.2 / 60

A limited number of lenses with M39 × 1 / 28.8 mount were produced in the 1990s until 2001.

1990s - 2001:
  • L Hexanon 2/35 (1996)
  • L UC-Hexanon 2/35 (2001)
  • L Hexanon 2.4 / 50 tube (folding) (1997)
