The Lower Franconian dialect ( German: Unterfränkisch, Unterostfränkisch ) is the Mainfranc ( South German ) dialect of the German language , distributed primarily in the Bavarian administrative district of Lower Franconia . The dialects east of the Spessart barrier (near Miltenberg and Aschaffenburg ) already belong to the Middle German dialects . The dialect coexists next to the Hohenloen and Henneberg . The reference Nizhne-Franconian is considered the Würzburg dialect.

For the Lower Franconian, as well as for many East Frank dialects , the indistinguishability of p and b , t and d , the transition of k to g and g to ch . Vowels e or ä are pronounced as long a ( Käse → Kaas, Besen → Baasn ). The verb is conjugated with its own root umlaut ( ich schlaff (ich schlafe) → du schlöffsdd (du schläfst) → er / sie / es schlöffdd (er / sie / es schläft) → mir schlaff'n (wir schlafen) → ihr schlaffdd (ihr schlaft) → die schlaffn (sie schlafen) ), the ending ends in the infinitive ( Ich will schlaff instead of Ich will schlafen ), the initial verb g ( Doä kosst g'schlaff instead of Da kannst du schlafen ) is often found.
