In 1578-1583, Andras Bathory studied at the Polish Jesuit College in Pultusk . In 1581 he received the rank of canon of Warmia, and in 1583 he became probst in Miechow . He continued his church education in Rome , in 1584 he received the rank of bishop-coadjuter of Warmia. In the same 1584 he received the rank of cardinal . In March 1589, Andrzej (Andras) Bathory received the rank of Bishop of Warmia.
In March 1599, the Transylvanian prince Sigismund Bathory abandoned the princely throne in favor of his cousin, the Bishop of Warmia and Cardinal Andrzej Batori, a protege of Poland . On October 18, 1599, at the Andrzej Batory was defeated by the army of the Wallachian ruler Mihai the Brave , who occupied Transylvania. Andrzej Batory was deprived of the princely throne and fled to Moldova , but was killed by the sekei along the way.
