Father was an ambulance driver, and mother had her own restaurant. Parents divorced when Eliseu was a teenager [2] .
Content
Club career
In 2002, Eliseu moved from the Azores , where he played for the local Maritimo team and began playing for the Belenensis youth team. Gradually, he won a place at the base and in the second season he already had 19 matches for the club.
In the 2005/06 season, Eliseu went on loan to the club of the second division “ Varzim ”. In 2007, Eliseu, together with team partners Elder Rosario and Paulo Georges, went to help the Spanish “ Malaga ” solve the problem of going to La Liga . The Portuguese trio had 108 matches and 6 goals, three of which Eliseu scored.
In the 2008/09 season, the Portuguese became the main player. On October 5, 2008, he scored the first goal in the second season, against Recreativo . The following month, Eliseu hit the gates of Real Madrid , but the Malaga lost, 3-4.
On June 25, 2009, the Portuguese moved to Lazio for € 1,000,000 [3] .
Having played several matches, he could not gain a foothold in the base due to high competition and moved to Zaragoza on loan until the end of the season [4] . In his second match against Villarreal , Eliseu scored a goal, but the team was defeated 2: 3 [5] . Eliseu helped Zaragoza to avoid relegation, again scoring Villarreal with a free kick in the last round. In the summer of 2014, Eliseu transferred to the Lisbon Benfica . The transfer amount amounted to 1.5 million euros [11] . On August 17, in a match against Pasush de Ferreira , he made his debut for a club from Lisbon [12] . On August 24, Eliseu scored his first goal against Benfica in a duel against Boavista [13] . In 2014, he won the Portuguese Super Cup , and a year later became the owner of the League Cup and the champion of the country. In 2017, Eliseu became the champion of Portugal for the third time.
International Career
After successful appearances for Malaga, Eliseu was called up to the Portuguese national team for a friendly match against the Finnish national team . February 11, 2009, he was included in the application for the match, but remained on the bench. On June 10 of the same year, he made his debut in a friendly match against the Estonian national team . In 2010, Eliseu was included in the list of 6 reserve players who could go to the World Cup in South Africa in the event of injury to one of the main players [14] [15] [16] . On October 7, 2011, Eliseu scored the first goal for the national team in the qualification round of the European Championship 2012 , against the national team of Iceland . In the final application for a trip to Poland and Ukraine , the midfielder is not included.
In the summer of 2016, Eliseu became the winner of the European Championship in France . At the tournament, he played in matches against the teams of Hungary [17] and Poland [18] .
In 2017, Eliseu took part in the Confederations Cup in Russia . At the tournament, he played in matches against the teams of Russia [19] , New Zealand [20] , Chile [21] and Mexico [22] .
