AMA Pro Racing
The AMA is the world's largest motor sports organization, which annually controls 80 professional and more than 4,000 amateur events. The AMA also maintains the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, located next to Columbus, Ohio . It is the governing body of motorcycle racing in the USA and is appointed by the International Motorcycle Federation ( FIM ). AMA Pro Racing was established in 1994 in response to the growth of racing motorcycles in the United States. The AMA Road Race Series includes the American Superbike Championship, the AMA Daytona Sportbike Championship (which includes the former AMA Supersport Championship and the now inactive AMA Formula Xtreme), as well as the new AMA Supersport Championship, which limits the age of riders to 16 - 21 years for 600 vat bikes. Other series include the AMA Supercross, the AMA Motocross, the AMA National Grand Championship on the mud track and the AMA Hillclimbing . On March 7, 2008, the AMA Pro Racing series was sold to the Daytona Motorsports Group (DMG), led by Roger Edmondson and Jim France. DMG will be responsible for the AMA Superbike series, the AMA Motocross series, the AMA Speedway series, the AMA Supermoto series, the AMA Hillycliming series , and ATV Pro Racing. The sale did not include the AMA Supercross and AMA Arenacross series, whose rights currently belong to Live Nation. DMG will license AMA names and trademarks for the specified racing series. [1] [2] [3] The new leadership has been criticized by some press representatives and fans for allegedly alienating factory teams [4] [5] and introducing NASCAR style rules such as initial rolling and pace car.
