Voice of Nomads - an international music festival in the format of world music . The festival’s ideology is based on three key concepts: development, movement and freedom. The motto of the festival: "The space of free music for free people." The festival forms a new place of communication, a new dimension at the crossroads of urban culture and national traditions.

The participants of the festival are professionals who create modern musical art on the basis of folk music. The selection of participants is based on the principle "Festival is a space of dialogue of cultures, not a costumed folklore performance."

Held annually since 2009 in the summer in Buryatia . Starting as a narrowly localized festival of ethnic music, the Voice of the Nomads became one of the largest world music festivals in the Urals.

The founder of the festival is the Ministry of Culture of Buryatia .

The idea of creating the festival belongs to the Minister of Culture of Buryatia Timur Tsybikov .

The permanent director of the festival since 2009 is journalist Natalia Ulanova.

The first leader of the festival was Nazim Nadirov - one of the main specialists in ethnic music in Russia, an orientalist, linguist, producer, journalist. He also came up with the name of the festival - “The Voice of the Nomads”.

The first “Voice” in 2009 became a festival of ethnic music, gathering a large number of folklore groups. Of the representatives of world music there was only a singer from Inner Mongolia, Urnaa Chahar-Tugchi, who had already become a world-class star, and Hungarian violinist Zoltan Lantos.

To make the event an interesting event not only for the Mongol-speaking world, the organizers decided to significantly expand the range of participants. The concept of nomadic culture was born, the idea of which was suggested by the Buryat archaeologist Bair Dashibalov in a documentary about the great Hunnu empire. The scientist said: " Nomads ( nomads ) are a symbol of movement, freedom, will." The organizers began to introduce this idea into the ideology of the festival.

The geography of participants is expanding every year. For the short history of the festival, many bands from Buryatia, Mongolia and China, as well as famous musicians from different parts of the world took part in it: the group “ Huun Huur Tu ” ( Tuva ), the ethno-chaos band “ Dakha Braha ” ( Ukraine ), one of the outstanding Asian vocalists Urna Chahar-Tugchi (China-Germany), Norwegian band Adjagas , American folk singer Nina Nastasya , Japanese band Oki dub Ainu band , gypsy band from Belgium Antwerp Gipsy-Ska Orkestra , David Brown and Brazzaville from the USA .

In 2012, for the first time, film screenings and an exhibition were included in the festival program. In the Buryat Philharmonic Hall, viewers were able to see the films directed by Bair Dyshenov “Mother’s Punishment”, three documentaries about the life of the Shenahen Khan produced by the Sansar film studio - “Snow Festival”, “House on the edge of the steppe”, “Wedding”, the film “Two horses of Genghis Khan "( Mongolia / Germany ) directed by Davaagiin Bambasuren nominated for an Oscar . The ethno-futuristic exhibition “Languages of Mosaic” by the Italian master Marco Bravur has opened in the Ts. Sampilov Art Museum.

In 2012, for the first time, part of the festival program was held in the open air on the territory of the Ethnographic Museum of the Trans-Baikal Peoples .

July 9 Project "Reincarnation": New Life of Buryat Music

The objective of the Reincarnation project is to give new life to music born in Buryatia with the help of modern electronic "visual" means. That is why the project was called "Reincarnation", which means "rebirth" or "new incarnation." All the musical works of this concert were created with funds from a grant of the President of the Russian Federation to support creative projects of national importance in the field of culture and art especially for this project and were performed from the stage for the first time. Work on the “Reincarnation” project began in October 2014 with the selection of musical material, which a huge multinational team worked on: composer and arranger Nar-Oyu Naranbaatar and her father, the famous Mongolian composer Badamgarav Naranbaatar, masters of Buryat folk singing Aldar Dashiev, Dashim Sogtoeva and Aryuna Lodoeva, Buryat-French trio Uulzalga, Moscow duet Two Siberians (White Ostrog). The culmination of the concert was the premiere of an electronic symphony in seven parts by composer Viktor Usovich, which is called Reincarnation.
