The most famous of his works is the novel The Famous Historie of the Seaven Champions of Christendom (released in two volumes, presumably in 1596 and 1597), which was so successful that one or two additional parts (presumably in 1608 and 1616 years ). The work includes a series of unconfirmed quotes from Shakespeare.

Almost nothing is known about Johnson's life, although in his book Nine Worties of London (1592) he called himself a student. He may have been employed in the household of Queen Anne, wife of King James I. Among his many other works, the ballad book The Crown Garland of Golden Roses set forth in Many Pleasant new Songs and Sonnets (1612), which was subsequently reprinted by the Percy Society, stands out. in 1842 and 1845 .

Other famous works of his authorship: Nine Worthies of London (1592); The Pleasant Walks of Moorefields (1607), the hero is the famous haberdasher from Poultry; The Most Pleasant History of Tom a Lincolne (1607); A Remembrance of Robert Earle of Salisbury (1612); Looke on Me, London (1613), The History of Tom Thumbe (1621).
