Georges Emile Leonard Tonis ( February 28, 1873 , Montaigne - January 14, 1966 , Brussels ) - Prime Minister of Belgium from December 16, 1921 to May 13, 1925 and the second time from November 20, 1934 to March 25, 1935 . He headed the National Bank of Belgium from 1941 to 1944.

He studied military and engineering. Georges Tönis began his career in the Empain industrial group. During World War I, he headed the Belgian Military Supply Committee in London . After the war, participated in the Paris Peace Conference , and also represented Belgium in the commission on reparations. From 1926 to 1927 he headed the International Economic Conference in Geneva .
In 1926 he joined the newly created board of directors of the National Bank and retained its membership in it until the outbreak of war, with the exception of two ministerial terms. During the Second World War, he served as special ambassador of Belgium to the United States . In 1941, he was appointed to the post of head of the National Bank.
