Content
History
In 1898, the Holy See established the Apostolic Prefecture of Uele, isolating it from the Apostolic Vicariate of Leopoldville (now the Archdiocese of Kinshasa ).
On December 18, 1911, Uele Apostolic Prefecture transferred part of its territory to the new Apostolic Prefecture of Eastern Uele and was renamed the Apostolic Prefecture of Uele West.
On April 15, 1924, Pope Pius XI issued a breve Ut in praefectura , with which he transformed the apostolic prefecture of West Uele into an apostolic vicariate.
On March 10, 1926, Pope Pius XI issued a bill to Admonet supremi , to whom he transferred part of the territory of the Apostolic Vicariate of West Uele to the new Apostolic Prefecture of Bondo (today the Diocese of Bondo ). On the same day, the apostolic vicariate of West Uele was renamed the apostolic vicariate of Bout.
On February 22, 1937, the apostolic vicariate of Buta transferred part of his territory to the new Apostolic Prefecture of Lolo (today the Diocese of Lolo ).
On November 10, 1959, the apostolic vicariate of Buta was transformed into the diocese by the bull of Cum parvulum of Pope John XXIII .
