Biography

Born on the estate of Panchany of the Disnensky district of the Vilnius province (now Miorsky district , Vitebsk region ). He studied at the Vilnius gymnasium, at the universities of several European cities ( Prague , Leipzig , Strasbourg ). In 1868 - 1870 he was the head of the Kryvytsky Vyazok cultural and educational circle in St. Petersburg, whose goal was to prepare a Belarusian language dictionary, collect folklore , and publish books. Being in exile since 1875 , maintained contacts with Russian, Ukrainian and Polish democrats ( P. Lavrov , M. Drahomanov , B. Limanovsky), published newspapers in Polish and French . In 1886 - 1887 he corresponded in Belarusian with the famous Ukrainian scientist and national figure Mikhail Drahomanov, in which he expressed his views on Belarus , Ukraine , and Slavism . Returning to his homeland in 1887, he was under secret police surveillance. In 1888 - 1889 he was an employee of the foreign department of the newspaper "Vilensky Vestnik" [1] [2] .

He is the author of the satirical poem Believable History ( Belorussian. Antiquated history ), the novel Karakozov ( Belor. Karakoz ), the drama Copernicus ( Belor. Kapernіk ) and other works (1870-1873). In 1873, in the journal “ Vestnik Evropy ” Belarusian verses were published - “From a foreign land” ( Belorussian. Z foreigners ), “In the native land” ( Belorussian. Have a native land ) and “To quail” ( Belorussian. Yes perapelki ). A large number of ethnographic-folklore and Belarusian-language materials are in the poem “The Tale of My Time” ( Belorussian. Apovest’s May ; 1876), the novel “Polotsk Gentry” ( Belorussian. Polatsk Gentry ; 1885) and the essay “The Most Happy Mary” ( belor. Shchaslіveyshaya Marysya ; 1892) [1] . The library of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow , the National Library in Warsaw and the Central Bank of Lithuania AN contain the creative heritage of Voinisław Savić-Zablotsky.
