Jalal Dogan was born in 1918 or 1920 in the village of Gurdan of the Bogazlyan Il Yozgat district. In the Turkish championship in 1938, the president of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Atatürk drew attention to his agility and speed, and advised him to change his name to Atik, which was done.
Like many other Turkish wrestlers, Jalal Atik played in tournaments in both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling, but he achieved the greatest success in freestyle wrestling, becoming European champion in 1946 and 1949, and Olympic champion in 1948, and in 1951 - the world champion.
After completing his sports career, Jalal Atik became the coach of the Turkish national team, and stayed in this position from 1955 to 1979. He also held seminars for athletes from different countries under the auspices of the International Federation of United Wrestling Styles .
Sports palaces in Izmir and Yozgat are named after Jalal Atik.
