History
On July 1, 1911, the Holy See established the Apostolic Prefecture of Matadi, separating it from the Apostolic Vicariate of Leopoldville (now the Archdiocese of Kinshasa ).
On July 23, 1930, the Apostolic Prefecture of Matadi was transformed into an Apostolic Vicariate .
On November 10, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate Matadi was transformed into a diocese by the bull Cum parvulum of Pope John XXIII .
