The Breton Club ( French Club breton ) is the French political club from which the Jacobin Club grew up in the era of the Revolution in 1789 .

It began with meetings organized by several deputies of the third estate of Brittany upon their arrival at Versailles at the general states even before their opening. Meetings took place at Amaury Café at 36 Saint Cloud Avenue (36 St. Cloud) in Versailles. The initiative for these meetings is attributed to d'Ennebon and de Pontivy, who were among the most radical deputies in their province.

Soon, these meetings were attended by deputies of the Breton clergy and deputies of other provinces, holding different directions: Sieyes and Mirabeau , Duke d'Aigillon and Robespierre , Abbot Gregoire , Barnavas and Petion .

The influence of this private organization made itself felt strongly on the critical days of June 17 and 23 . When the king and the National Assembly moved to Paris , the Breton Club broke up, but its former members began to gather again, first in a Paris private house, then in the premises they hired in the monastery of the Jacobin monks (Dominican Order) near the arena where the national assembly was sitting. Some of the monks also attended; therefore, the royalists nicknamed the club members a mockery of the " Jacobins ", they themselves adopted the name "Society of Friends of the Constitution."
