Biography
In 1956 he graduated from high school with a gold medal in the city of Balashikha , Moscow Region and entered the 2nd Medical Institute . Since June 1957, he began to actively attend lectures by geneticists at the Moscow Society of Naturalists .
From 1978 to 2000, he was deputy chairman of the bureau of the section of geneticists in this society. In 1963 he entered graduate school with a degree in genetics. Akifyev’s supervisor was Nikolai Petrovich Dubinin . In 1967 he defended his thesis, and in 1986 - his doctorate. In 1990, he was awarded the title of professor.
For many years A.P. Akifiev led research in the field of mutagenesis . From 1965 to 1975 he worked at the Institute of General Genetics. N. I. Vavilova, USSR Academy of Sciences . From 1975 to 1997, he led the group of molecular mechanisms of mutagenesis at the N. N. Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences . From 1997 to the last days, he was the main research fellow and leader of the mutagenesis group at the Institute of General Genetics named after N. I. Vavilova, RAS.
Since 1963, Alexei Pavlovich began to engage in pedagogical work: he gives lectures on genetics at the 2nd Medical Institute, Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov, Nizhny Novgorod University, at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute . He was a professor at the University of Dubna [1] .
Scientific Interests
His main research interests include molecular organization and evolution of the genomes of higher plants and animals, mutagenesis and aging genetics . A.P. Akifiev made an invaluable contribution to the study of the mechanisms of structural mutagenesis in the cells of higher organisms. His work on radiation biology gained world recognition. An important place in his research was occupied by the topic of chromatin diminution in copepods . For the first time in Russia, the study of this problem was started in 1989 by A.P. Akifiev. He was the first to associate the problem of chromatin diminution with the problem of eukaryotic genome redundancy [2] .
Rewards
- He was awarded the medal "For Labor Valor" .
- His studies on chromatin diminution in the Cyclops were awarded the MAIK Nauka / Interiodika Prize in 2005 [3] .
- In 2006, by decree of the Head of the Russian Imperial House of the Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna A.P. Akifiev was awarded the noble title for many years as a lecturer at conferences of the Noble Assembly of Russia, the book "Genetics and Fates", publications in the "Noble Herald" and "The Noble Almanac " [4] .
