History

In 1788 , the daughter of industrialist Ivan Myasnikov, a co-owner of a smelter, Agrafena Ivanovna Durasova, organized the construction of a stone church in the village. The temple was consecrated in honor of the icon of the Kazan Mother of God. Under the cover of this church, not only Verkhotor’s life, but also the neighboring villages of Osipovka, Tatyanovka, Skvorchikha, Ramadanovka, Privolnoye and nearby farms passed their lives.

The size of the parish, according to 1873 , was 6828 souls of both sexes, and there were chapels in the villages of Skvorchikha and Tatyanovka.

In 30 years, the church was closed. The time of desecration and destruction of the temple began. It was not possible to completely demolish the building, the proximity to residential buildings did not allow it to be blown up. When trying to destroy the temple without explosives during the demolition of the domes, the tractor driver was killed, and the idea of complete destruction stalled. Domes and crosses went into remelting. The iconostasis was taken out and hidden, the old icons were packed in chests and buried in the forest, now they are obviously lost forever. The temple was turned into a warehouse.

A club was later organized here. Nobody cared about maintaining the building, gradually it collapsed, plaster crumbled, birch trees grew on the dilapidated roof.

Temple Construction

Initially, the building consisted of three volumes, a square temple and inferior to it in width of the refectory and the apse facing the northeast. The temple had a typical shape for Russian religious buildings of the second half of the 18th century with a high closed arch and a single cupola.

In the 19th century, a three-tier bell tower and side limits were attached to the temple, the building became cruciform. By the end of the 20th century, the bell tower was partially demolished, a small cupola, located above the altar apse and two lucarnas, cut through the northwestern and southeastern trays of the temple vault, were destroyed.
