World Blood Donor Day

Since 1995, the International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations, on its own initiative, held International Blood Donor Day [3] , but in 2002 the Federation began negotiations with three major international organizations working in the field of blood donation: with the World Health Organization ( WHO ), with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRCS) and the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT). The result of the negotiations was the signing in 2004 of an agreement on the establishment of World Blood Donor Day [4] . At the World Health Assembly in 2005, Ministers of all member countries of the World Health Organization unanimously ratified and signed a resolution in which gratuitous donors were recognized as the most important resource of guaranteed safe blood [5] . World Blood Donor Day was officially established as an annual holiday and received a recommendation for its integration into State Blood Donation Programs. Since 2004, World Blood Donor Day has been held around the world every year on June 14 [6] , and its founding partners and sponsors are the founding partners: International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations, World Health Organization, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Federation and International Society of Blood Transfusion.
