Rabinowitz, David

David Lincoln Rabinowitz (also Rabinovich , English David Lincoln Rabinowitz ; 1960 ) is an American astronomer and TNO pioneer from Yale , who studies the Kuiper belt and the outer region of the solar system , helping to understand the origin and evolution of the solar system [4] . In the period from 2003 to 2005, together with Michael Brown and Chadwick Trujillo, he discovered a total of 7 large trans-Neptune objects (including 5 plutoids ), two of which received the status of a dwarf planet ( (136199) Eris and (136472) Makemake ) [ 5] .

In addition to trans-Neptune objects, he is also very active in the problem of near-Earth asteroids . His research allowed to reduce the estimated amount of NEA with a diameter of more than a kilometer by half (from 1000-2000 to 500-1000) [6] . He also participated in the search for quasars and supernovae .

He also discovered several smaller asteroids, such as the asteroids (5145) Fall [7] and 1991 BA (Eng.) [8], together with Tom Guerls of Arizona University as part of the spacewatch program.

In recognition of his merits, one of the asteroids was given his name (5040) Rabinowitz [9] .
