Waigeo ( indon. Waigeo ) - an island in eastern Indonesia . Administratively, it is part of the province of West Papua . Also known as Amberi and Waigu .

Geography
It is the largest of the four main islands of the Raja Ampat archipelago ; located east of Halmahera Island and about 65 km northwest of the coast of New Guinea . The Dampier Strait separates Waigeo from Batanta Island in the south, and the Bougainville Strait from the Cava Islands in the northwest. The other three main islands of the archipelago are Salavati , Batanta and Misool . Waigeo's area is 3,153.7 km²; the highest point is at 993 m above sea level. The coastline is 691.5 km [1] . From west to east, the island stretches for 110 km, from north to south - about 50 km.
Population
The population is about 10,000 people. On the island of Waigeo, the languages Waigeo and Maya are used, which belong to the Malay-Polynesian branch of the Austronesian languages . The city of Vasai in the west of the island is the administrative center of Raja Ampat County.
Economics
Since 1997, Waigeo has been a significant center for pearl cultivation, and its Atlas Pacific company is owned by Australia.
