Vladimir Ignatievich Voyachek ( March 8 [20], 1876 [3] , St. Petersburg - October 19, 1971 , Leningrad ) - Soviet ENT specialist , academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1944), Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1933), Hero of Socialist Labor (1961), Lieutenant General of the Medical Service (1943).

Biography

In 1894 he graduated from the 6th St. Petersburg Gymnasium with a gold medal; in 1899 - the Military Medical Academy ; worked in the clinic of N.P. Simanovsky . In 1917-1956 - Professor (since 1930 - Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology), in 1919-1925. - Vice President and in 1925-1930. - Head of the Military Medical Academy. In 1956-1968 - Consulting Professor at the Academy. Since 1968 - retired.

On his initiative, in 1930 the Leningrad Research Institute of Ear, Throat, Nose and Speech Diseases was established.

He was elected a delegate to the XV All-Russian Congress of Soviets (1931), VII (1935) and VIII (Extraordinary , 1936) of the All-Union Congresses of Soviets.

He was buried at the Theological Cemetery in St. Petersburg [4] .

Family

Father - Ignatius Kasparovich Voyachek (1825-1916), composer, professor of the St. Petersburg Conservatory (in music theory and instrumentation); conductor and organist of the Mariinsky Theater; publicist, music critic [5] .

The nephew of V.I. Voyachek (the son of his sister Lyudmila Ignatievna Fridman, 1869-1953, and the composer Alexander Alexandrovich Fridman ) is a physicist and mathematician Alexander Alexandrovich Fridman .

Scientific activity

The main works are on physiology, pathology and the method of studying the inner ear, marine and airborne diseases, deaf-mute, speech defects. He described the original symptoms and forms of diseases, for example, food-borne lymph nodes, the symptom of "bluish-white" spots in vasomotor disorders, and otoscleroma.

He proposed a number of new operations, medical instruments, methods of surgical equipment: hammerless operations on the temporal bone; "Sparing" methods of operation for diseases of the ear, throat and nose with micro-instruments; an original method for removing the larynx in cancer, a new version of radical middle ear surgery; mobilization of the nasal septum, etc.

He developed the standards for the selection of personnel for aviation and the navy, as well as the vestibular apparatus research methodology used in the selection of pilots and astronauts.

Created a large school of otorhinolaryngologists.

He was a member of the board of the All-Union and Russian (RSFSR) otorhinolaryngological societies, a corresponding member of the Vienna and Czechoslovak otorhinolaryngological societies.

Author of about 300 scientific papers, including textbooks on otorhinolaryngology. In 1934 he created the first guide to ENT care in the Red Army . One of the authors and editor of the 8th volume of work "The Experience of Soviet Medicine in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945."
