Biography
Heinz is the son of Alois the Younger, half-brother of Adolf Hitler, from his second marriage with Hedwig Heidemann (or Hedwig Mikli [1] ).
Heinz Hitler was the beloved nephew of Adolf Hitler [2] . Unlike his brother William, he was a Nazi. In 1938 he graduated from the elite National Political Academy (“Napola”) in Ballenstedt and chose an officer’s career [3] . His former classmate Hans-Wolf Werner recalled that Heinz literally boasted a kinship with Hitler; once he and his friends drove through Magdeburg on a car taken from someone without a driver's license and any guard who stopped him immediately released when he saw the name Hitler on his identity card.
He served as a non-commissioned officer in the 23rd Potsdam Artillery Regiment as a communications man. He fought on the Eastern Front . He took part in the invasion of the Soviet Union according to the plan of Barbarossa . Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class.
On January 10, 1942, Heinz Hitler was captured and held in Moscow’s Butyrka prison , where he died in February 1942. The place of his burial remains unknown.
