Caldera del Atuel is a caldera , the highest point of which is the Sosneado stratovolcano, 5189 meters high. Located at the eastern end of the Main Cordillera Range in western Argentina, near the border with Chile . The caldera diameter is 30x45 kilometers wide. The caldera is dotted with 15 volcanic domes consisting of dacites and 25 stratovolcanoes and slag cones , which are composed of andesites and basalts . Most of the volcanic relief is young and originated in the modern period . Many peaks of volcanoes are covered with snow. Volcanic activity is not fixed and is currently absent.
