Biography
Thomas Matthew Burns was born on June 3, 1944 in Belfast , Northern Ireland . After graduating from the College of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Blackburn, he joined the monastic congregation "Society of Mary." December 16, 1971 he was ordained a priest , after which he was engaged in pastoral activities in various parishes, taught economics. Since 1986, he served as chaplain in the Royal Navy of Great Britain . In 1992, he was appointed to Rome for administrative work in the Congregation of the Society of Mary. In 1994 he returned to the position of chaplain of the Royal Navy.
On May 24, 2002, Pope John Paul II appointed Thomas Matthew Burns to be ordinar of the British military ordinate. On June 18, 2002, Thomas Matthew Burns was ordained bishop. On October 16, 2008 he was appointed ordinarium of the diocese of Menevia.
