Biography

Kurt Kushela was born on September 30, 1988 in Berlin . He began to actively engage in rowing at the age of ten, and later became a member of the Potsdam sports club, where he trained under the guidance of coach Ralph Welke.

In 2010, he qualified for the national team and got the opportunity to participate in major international starts, made his debut in the World Cup, taking fifteenth place among single canoes at 1000 m. A year later he won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Szeged, Hungary , showing the third result in the program 500m double canoe. At the 2012 European Championships in the Croatian Zagreb, he took silver at a kilometer distance, again in a double canoe. At the same time, the first victories at the World Cup stages came, for example, at the stages in Poznan, he twice stood at the top of the podium, and at the competitions in Duisburg he replenished the medal collection with two silver awards.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, Kushela and his partner Peter Kretschmer were awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the XXX Summer Olympic Games in London, where they subsequently won gold, ahead of all rivals at a distance of 1000 m [1] .

Kushela lives and trains in Potsdam , in addition to playing sports, works as a firefighter.
