Beckancourt ( French: Bécancour ) is a city in the Canadian province of Quebec in the Central Quebec region , Beckancourt district, to the south (across the St. Lawrence River) from Trois-Rivieres . The name of the city passed to him from the lord, founded here during the time of New France .
The first French settlers arrived here in 1758 - they were Acadians deported by British authorities from the territory of the future province of New Brunswick .
Currently, the population of the city is 11,134 people. French is the native language for 97.7%, English for 0.7% of the inhabitants (2006) [1] .
