Development History

The official start of the development of Warfare - January 2005. The project manager was Vitaliy Shutov. Game development ended on September 19, 2008 and went on sale September 20, 2008 [3] . Also for the game there is a special editor Warfare Map Editor [4] .

Story

Relatives of the king of Saudi Arabia rebelled and pulled troops to their side. The king is asking for help from the Americans, who in turn have one goal - to seize the opportunity to make Saudi Arabia a “democratic" country.

Gameplay

Groupings

  • Royal Saudi Family
  • US Army Expeditionary Force
  • The taliban
  • Arab rebel army

You can play only for the US Army. In addition, in some missions, parts of the Royal Saudi Guard are transferred to the player under control.

Career growth

When playing for the United States, the protagonist does not receive new titles, but recruits his favorite trophy of Soviet, Russian and French equipment into his squad. Along the way, there is a professional growth of each unit depending on the experience gained. Most units and crews go from mission to mission. At the same time, all detachments retain their experience regardless of losses - the main thing is that at the end of the mission the detachment should not be completely destroyed.

Technique

The game presents an arsenal of modern technology, both American, Soviet and Russian production, and, in addition, many models of modern European weapons. When passing the campaign there is the opportunity to buy new equipment. There are more than 50 types of real-life equipment in the game, including experimental (for example, self-propelled guns "Kruseyder") and unused (Buggy, Land Rover 110, Patriot and C-75 air defense systems, and also the SCAD air defense system). At the same time, there are a lot of inaccuracies in the game - so the rebel forces use BTVTs, which in reality are not armed with Saudi forces, but are used by neighboring countries (Iraq, UAE).

Press Reviews

The game received mostly warm reviews from critics. The main advantage of the game was called the realism of the game and the lack of resources, which not only increases the complexity of the game, but also creates the need for tactical combat, making the game more interesting. A powerful soundtrack in the spirit of the old parts of Command & Conquer [5] was also noted. The minuses of the game include the dullness of some missions, the lack of diversity in the map landscape and the not very reliable display of the Saudi Arabian materiel made to please the game balance.

Other games

February 5, 2010 GFI released the game Confrontation. 3D Reboot ( Warfare Reloaded ), using the Warfare engine with a modified interface. In early 2017, another studio, Cats who play, released its product, the game Syria: Russian Storm (Syrian Warfare), using the same engine, but with minor UI modifications, as well as models and textures of the best quality. Unlike Warfare and Confrontation, Russian Storm does not play hypothetical conflicts, but is repelled by the events of the civil war in Syria. In Russian Storm, events are presented from the point of view of a Syrian officer, and ISIS and Nusra militants act as opponents.
