The 205th separate motorized rifle Cossack brigade is the motorized rifle formation of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation . The formation is part of the 49th combined arms army of the Southern Military District . The point of permanent deployment is the city of Budennovsk, Stavropol Territory.

Formed in 1995 on the basis of the 167th motorized rifle brigade and 723rd motorized rifle regiment during the first Chechen campaign.
The team is under the care of the diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Russian Orthodox Church . [eight]
Having a “Cossack” status, the unit selects Cossacks in its ranks from the Don , Kuban and Terek Cossack troops. Cossack troops patronize the battalions assigned to them. Assistance is provided in maintaining discipline, humanitarian assistance is sent. [9]
The brigade is a compound of constant combat readiness. [9]
History
The 205th separate motorized rifle brigade was formed on the basis of the Directive of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation No. 314/12/0198 of March 17, 1995 to fulfill the tasks of restoring the constitutional order and disarming illegal gangs on the territory of the Chechen Republic . [10] The formation of the formation was based on the 167th separate motorized rifle brigade (military unit 29709, Chebarkul, Chelyabinsk Region) and the 723rd motorized rifle regiment of the 16th Guards Tank Division (military unit 89539, Tchaikovsky , Perm Territory ) The place of initial deployment was the city of Grozny . On May 2, 1995, the formation of the brigade was completed and since then this day has become a jubilee.
From May 1995 to November 23, 1996, the 205th Omsbr carried out combat operations on the territory of the Chechen Republic. [11] On December 31, 1996, the withdrawal of the brigade was fully completed.
Since January 20, 1997, the 205th police station has been based in the city of Budennovsk. [12]
On the basis of the order of the Minister of Defense, the brigade was awarded the honorary name "Cossack" on September 23, 1998. [13]
In 1999, the brigade was engaged in repelling the invasion of Chechen illegal armed groups in Dagestan . The battles were fought in the villages of Botlikh and Karamakhi . Further hostilities continued on the territory of Chechnya. Soldiers of the compound liberated the settlements: p. Znamenskoye , the city of Grozny, the settlement of Shaami-Yurt . [14]

During the two Chechen campaigns, about 1,500 soldiers and officers of the brigade were awarded state awards. Five brigade servicemen were awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation :
