Biography

Ruta Mary Kilmonis was born in Montreal in a family of Lithuanian immigrants [2] . In 1948, her family moved to Los Angeles , where she entered Hollywood High School, where she began to appear in school plays, and take acting classes [3] . After leaving school, Ruta Lee studied at the University of California, Los Angeles . Before professionally taking up an acting career, she changed many professions, working as a cashier, ticket taker, as well as a seller of chocolates at Grauman’s Chinese Theater [2] [4] .

In 1953, she managed to find an agent in Hollywood who helped her make her debut on television in the TV series “Superman Adventures”. A year later, Ruta Lee first appeared on the big screen in the Stanley Donen musical “ Seven Brides for Seven Brothers ”, where she played one of the brides. In the future, the actress has repeatedly received proposals for filming a movie, but mainly for the supporting role. Subsequent films with her participation include such films as “Gaby” (1956), “ Funny Face ” (1957), “ Witness of the Prosecution ” (1957), “Marjorie Morningstar” (1958) and “Three Sergeants” (1962).
