Aleksandr Alekseevich Tarasov (March 23, 1927 - June 16, 1984) - Soviet pentathlete , Olympic champion in 1956 . Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1956). Champion of the USSR in the individual championship (1958).

Biography
Born in the village of Sekirino, Zaraysk district, Moscow region . He lived in Leningrad .
Alexander Tarasov began to practice pentathlon since 1952. Prior to that, he participated in all-Union skiing championships and repeatedly started in marathon races. On his account was a bronze medal won in the country's fencing championship [1] . He played for the Armed Forces and Dynamo (Leningrad).
Champion of the USSR (1958), silver (1961) and bronze (1957, 1959, 1962) medalist of the USSR championships (in the individual competition) [2] .
At the Olympic Games in Melbourne, Ivan Deryugin , Igor Novikov and Alexander Tarasov won gold medals in the team event [3] . In the individual event, Alexander Tarasov became the eighth. In the three years after the Melbourne Olympics, as part of the USSR national team, he received three gold medals at world championships [1] [2] [3] .
Alexander Tarasov could not take part in the 1960 Olympics because of an injury. During the training camp for the USSR championship in 1960, when passing the equestrian cross, he fell with his horse, broke two ribs and collarbone [2] .
In 1957 he was awarded the title "Honored Master of Sports" [4] .
In 1959 he graduated from the school of trainers at the Leningrad Institute of Physical Culture . Member of the CPSU since 1963. After completing the athlete’s career, Alexander Tarasov became a coach of the Leningrad Dynamo [1] .
Passed away on June 16, 1984. He was buried in the Northern cemetery of St. Petersburg . In memory of the legendary pentathlete since 2010, annual All-Russian competitions “Memorial of Olympic Champion Alexander Tarasov” have been held in St. Petersburg [2] .
