Myitkyina [2] ( Burmese မ ္ ရစ္ က ္ ရိး နား မ ္ ရုိ့ ; MLCTS : mrac kri: na: mrui. ) Is a city in Myanmar , the capital of Kachin , located 800 km from Mandalay . The name of the city means “by the big river”, meaning the Irrawaddy River . Here is the northernmost river port and train station . The population is mixed - Kachin , Shans , Burmese , Chinese and Indians . In the vicinity of the city are rice plantations, the best varieties and high yields.

During World War II, the city passed from hand to hand, Japanese and Chinese troops fought for it, as a result, the city was occupied by the Allies led by General Joseph Stillwell . The city was of strategic importance as a transport hub .
