Biography
Oliver Wakeman was born into a musical family and is the eldest son of famous rock musician Rick Wakeman . On the account of Oliver several solo works, as well as participation in the recording of albums of various rock groups and other musical projects.
A musical career began at the age of five, when Oliver began taking piano lessons. The first recording took place in 1984, when Oliver, along with his brother Adam, participated in recording backing vocals for one of the compositions of the album “Cost of Living” by Rick Wakeman . The song was called 'Bedtime Stories', and at the moment it is the only record on which you can simultaneously hear Oliver, Adam and Rick.
At the age of 17, Oliver began giving small concerts in Devon's pubs, which began to shape the musician’s playing style and experience, and in 1989 he made his professional debut when Oliver participated in the recording of the Obsession group's debut of desire album as a full-fledged team member. Oliver even composed one song for this album, 'Into the Mirror', which, perhaps, someday will be re-recorded again.
After participating in the group 'Obsession', Oliver went to college, where he received a diploma of an artist-designer. In addition, he continued to perform in North Devon as a member of the blues-rock band `Smokestack`, which he left in 2002.
In 1997, Oliver Wakeman's first album, Heaven's Isle, was released, commissioned by Landmark Trust for their promotional purposes. In 1999, the album was reissued in Europe by Verglas. The music from this album was used on BBC1 and Independent Television.
The second album, Jabberwocky , (in collaboration with London-based musician Clive Nolan ) was released in 1999, featuring musicians such as Peter Banks (Yes), Tony Fernandez (Strawbs), Rick Wakeman (reading the text), Tracey Hitchings ( Landmarq) ) and Bob Catley ( Magnum ).
The instrumental album The 3 Ages of Magick was recorded in 2001 with the participation of Yes and Asia guitarist Steve Howe , who recorded all the guitar parts and assumed the duties of executive producer. The release of the album was accompanied by a small private concert at London's The 12 Bar Club. Despite the fact that the album was released in a limited edition, due to numerous positive reviews, it was reissued several times.
In early 2002, the second collaboration between Oliver Wakeman and Clive Nolan was released - the rock opera The Hound of the Baskervilles . The new album involved both many musicians from the previous work and new faces: Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon), Ashley Holt (Rick Wakeman Band), Karl Grum (Threshold). The text of the narrative on behalf of Dr. Watson was read by the famous English TV presenter and actor Robert Powell . The album again received many extremely enthusiastic reviews.
