Biography
Born in 1825 in the village of Borisovo, Fedosynsky volost, Kolomensky district, Moscow province, in a mason's family.
He began working as a bricklayer, was engaged in contracts for stone work. Subsequently, together with engineer Sadovsky, he received a contract for the construction of stone bridges of the Moscow-Kursk Railway ; Then he participated in the construction of the Oryol-Vitebsk [1] , Gryaz-Tsaritsynskaya , Lozovo-Sevastopol , Ural , Gornozavod , Baltic and other railways.
Together with V. A. Kokorev, he created the Baku Oil Society , the Northern Insurance Society . I also bought the famous Gurzuf estate in Crimea , started extensive winemaking there and sought to make it a European resort. Gubonin in Gurzuf built the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Gubonin also took a close part in the construction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow and many other charitable projects. At the expense of Gubonin, the Komissarov technical school was built in Moscow, financed the construction of the Polytechnic Museum .
In Tver, at his expense, the building of a theological seminary was built [2] .
For his work in the work of the Russian Technical Society, Gubonin received the title of Commerce Advisor .
The nobility was given to him "in return of donations from 1870 - 1872 , for the arrangement and provision of the polytechnic exhibition in Moscow, which was in that year, and in consideration for his desire to contribute to the public good with his works and property." At the exhibition, Gubonin headed the railway department.
After the construction of the Sevastopol road, in 1875, Gubonin became a real state adviser , which gave hereditary nobility to his sons - Sergey and Nikolai; in 1878, the Gubonins received a noble coat of arms with the motto "Not for yourself, but for your homeland" [4] .
P.I. Gubonin was an honorary member of the pedagogical council of the Imperial Moscow Technical School , a member of the Society of Lovers of Natural History, Anthropology and Ethnography . In 1871, he instituted a scholarship for those who left at the university after completing the course at the Physics and Mathematics Department of Moscow University (302 rubles and 50 kopecks) [5] .
According to the characteristics of the Minister of Finance of Russia Witte, Peter Gubonin :
... was a fat man, a simple Russian man with great common sense. Gubonin, as I said, began his career with a small farmer, then became a contractor, and then a builder of railways and became a railway star. He impressed me with a person with great common sense, but with almost no education.

Gubonin's condition was estimated at about 20 million rubles. Peter Ionovich Gubonin died on September 30, 1894 in Moscow, was buried according to his will in Gurzuf.

Merit
- For his merits in the development of domestic industry and large donations, Pyotr Ionovich received the rank of Privy Councilor.
- He was awarded the orders of St. Stanislav of the 1st degree, St. Anna of the 1st and 2nd degrees, St. Vladimir of the 2nd and 3rd degrees.
- The merits of Gubonin were recognized abroad. He was awarded foreign awards: the Serbian Order of the White Eagle , the Montenegrin - Prince Daniel of the 2nd degree, the Austrian - the Commander’s Cross of Franz Joseph , the Persian - Leo and the Sun of the 2nd degree [6] .
