Gorelya Dolina - a tract located in the Zmievsky district of the Kharkiv region in the Seversky Donets river basin, four kilometers southeast of Lake Liman , on the third supra-terrace. This territory is unique as the only isolated location of salt marshes in the region and the northernmost point of salt marshes in Europe (Gamulya, 1994).
The main environmental factors determining the qualitative composition and structure of the biocenoses of the valley are the water regime, the degree of salinization of the soil and water, and the method of economic use.

Water Feature
The reservoirs located on the territory of the tract belong to the type of reservoirs (puddles) identified by E. I. Lukin (1979) with a long standing period of water, or do not dry out every year. The main sources of water supply are precipitation (rain and snow) and groundwater.
The tract, as well as for the Seversky Donets as a whole, is characterized by a high level of spring floods, relatively low floods occurring in summer or autumn, and long summer and winter low water. During the spring flood, the water level rises to 1.5 meters, which leads to the merging of individual reservoirs into a single water system, consisting of lakes and land areas, temporarily covered by water. When drying to parts of such areas, salt crust may form. The largest reservoir of the tract, Goreloe Lake, has mixed nutrition, while in dry periods it feeds on groundwater (spring), which dominates and plays the main role, and in spring and autumn, precipitation dominates. Apparently, the complete isolation of the Gorely Valley ponds from the Seversky Donets River is a significant factor determining the species composition of crustaceans found in the tract.
The examined territory is characterized by the presence of plants belonging to all phytocenotic groups: meadow, water, marsh, forest, halophytic, psammophytic, weed (Gamulya, 1994).
Vegetation
The coastal-aquatic vegetation is poor, represented by fragments of such associations: Sparganitus alimatosum, Sparganietum butosum, Sparganietum sagittariosus, Typheta purum. Higher aquatic vegetation is represented by Typheta purum. (Attached by roots to the ground, shoots 30-50 cm long) in shallow places not covered with silt, and Ceratophyllum tanaiticus rooting in the same places and represented by shoots up to 10 cm long or in separate shorter sections, floating in the surface layer of water. The surface of the water in the reed and reed thickets is sometimes covered with Spirodella polyrhiza.
On the territory of the tract there are rare species of leeches listed in the Red Book of Ukraine: Fadejewobdella quinqueannulata (Lukin, 1929), Hirudo medicinalis Linnaeus, 1758 and Hirudo verbana Carena, 1820 (Utevsky, 1999, 2010). Also on the territory of the tract, three species of crustaceans listed in the Red Book of Ukraine were found: Tanymastix stagnalis (Linnaeus, 1758), Drepanosurus birostratus (Fisher, 1851) and Hemidiaptomus rylovi Charin 1928 (Sidorovsky, 2010, 2012).
