Kirensk municipality is a municipality with the status of an urban settlement in Kirensk district of the Irkutsk region of Russia. The administrative center is the city of Kirensk . The Kirensk municipal formation is endowed with the status of an urban settlement by the Law of the Irkutsk Region dated December 16, 2004 No. 87-OZ “On the Status and Borders of Municipalities of the Kirensk District of the Irkutsk Region”.

Physical-geographical characteristic
Kirensk municipality is located in the northwestern part of Kirensk region . The urban settlement borders: in the north-west - with the Katangsky district ; in the west - with the Ust-Kut district ; in the south - with the Krivoluk municipality , Markov municipality , Bubnovsky municipality ; in the east - with the Alekseevsky municipal formation and the Alymovsky municipal formation . The area of settlement is 6,162.85 km² (616.3 thousand hectares) [1] .
The climate is sharply continental , with long winters and short summers. The average annual air temperature is negative and is minus 4.5 ° C. Winter lasts an average of 190-195 days, starting in mid-September and ending in the end of April. The average monthly air temperature in January is minus 27 ° C. Winter precipitation is 25-30% of the annual amount, which varies from year to year from 270 to 420 mm. The thickness of the snow cover averages 25-35 cm. The average air temperature in summer varies between + 17 ° -19 ° C [1] .
The hydrographic network of the territory of the urban settlement is represented by many rivers and streams. The main river artery that cuts through the territory of a city settlement in a southeastern direction is the Lena River, with tributaries of the Nikolskaya, Kirenga , Telyachiha, Irtysh , Kulebyachiha, Chertovskaya rivers, and the Spruce stream [1] .
In the soil cover on the territory of the Kirensk municipal unit, the dominant soil type is sod-calcareous, formed on limestone and sandstone. Their thickness reaches 30-40 cm, the humus content can reach 4-5%, therefore they are fertile. Meadow-alluvial soils are more widespread in river valleys.
In the vegetation cover on the territory of the Kirensky municipality, its taiga type dominates, coniferous species prevail, but they are often mixed with deciduous: birch , poplar , aspen, alder, etc. [1] .
