This baroque fountain was built in 1732-1762 by the architect Nicolo Salvi . It is adjacent to the facade of the Palazzo Poli ( Italian: Palazzo Poli ).

The majestic facade of the palace and the fountain are perceived as a whole, and therefore the fountain seems even grander. An Ocean sits out of the central niche of the palace like a chariot , sitting on the sea shell, which is pulled by newts and hippocampi . Allegorical figures are placed in niches on the sides of Neptune, and bas-reliefs are above them. On the right bas-relief, a young girl indicates to the Roman soldiers where the source is. An aqueduct was laid from this source, through which water flowed to Rome, and the aqueduct, like the spring, was named Acqua Vergine ( Acqua - water, Vergine - virgin).

There is a belief that a person who throws a coin into him will come to Rome again. Two coins - a love meeting. Three - wedding (marriage). Four coins are wealth. Five coins - separation. The amount of money that utilities annually “catch” reaches 1.4 million euros (in 2017 ) [2] .

On the right side of the fountain are "lovers' tubes." According to legend, young couples who drank water from them will love each other and live in harmony until old age.

The Trevi Fountain was captured in many films: Roman Vacations , Sweet Life , Madly in Love and others, as well as in the animated series Futurama .
