Biography
He was born in 1862 in Ekenes, in the Grand Duchy of Finland in a simple fishing family (later his father worked as a guardian of the local church).
In 1872, he began studying jewelry from a local Danish master, Petter Madsen, who produced silverware.
In 1878 he came to work in St. Petersburg, where he entered as an apprentice in the workshop of the Faberge company . He was one of the most capable pupils in connection with which after some time he became the right hand of the leading goldsmith Mikhail Perkhin , and when Perkhin died in 1903, responsibility for all the important orders that the Faberge company received fell on him. In this capacity, the master worked 14 years.
In 1906, Vigström became the main master of the Faberge company, which with his participation produced thousands of magnificent jewelry made of gold, silver and precious metals - gold watches and lornets with ornaments, silver vases, glasses and snuff boxes, animal figurines, picture frames with diamond eagle and much more. The aesthetic source for the jeweler was the era of Louis XVI.
The activities of the artist, as well as the entire Faberge company, were interrupted by the events of October 1917. The master moved to Terioki on the Karelian Isthmus , where his dacha was located, and where he hoped to wait a few weeks until the situation returned to normal and he returned to St. Petersburg, but the expectations did not come true.
He died in 1923.
