Earl Stafford

Earl Stafford ( English Earl of Stafford ) - English noble title, known since the XIV century. Its carriers were peers of England and sat in the House of Lords of the English Parliament . The title does not currently exist.

The title of Earl of Stafford was first created in 1351 for Ralph de Stafford , 2nd Baron of Stafford .

  • 1485 - 1521 : Edward Stafford (February 3, 1478 - 1521), 9th Baron Stafford, 9th Baron Audley, 8th Earl of Stafford, 3rd Earl of Buckingham and 3rd Duke of Buckingham from 1485, son of the previous.

In 1521, all titles were confiscated. The son of Edward Stafford, Henry Stafford , was returned in 1547 the title of Baron Stafford, which was worn by his descendants.

Earls Stafford, Second Creation (1688)

On October 5, 1688, King James II appropriated Mary Stafford , the great-granddaughter of Henry Stafford, 1st Baron Stafford, and her son Henry Howard the title of Countess and Earl of Stafford.

  • 1733 - 1751 : William Matthew Stafford-Howard (February 24, 1718/1719 - February 28, 1751), 3rd Earl of Stafford from 1733, de jure Baron Stafford, son of the previous
  • 1751 - 1762 : John Paul Stafford-Howard (June 26, 1700 - April 1, 1762), 4th Earl of Stafford from 1751, de jure Baron Stafford, son of William Stafford-Howard, 2nd Earl of Stafford

After the death of John Paul in 1762, the title of Earl of Stafford disappeared.
