Nevesin Olympiad

Nevesin Olympiad ( Serb. Nevesin Olympiad ) is a traditional sports and cultural event organized by the Nevesinje community with the support of the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports of the Republika Srpska . The Olympics are held in August each year on the Brotherly Meadow. In August 2011, the 136th Olympiad was held. The roots of this event come from 1850 , and the first poster dedicated to the Olympics is dated 1891 . When Herzegovina belonged to the Turks , preparations were being made for the cavalry units of the Turkish army in the Brotherly meadow. Horse racing was also organized there. Gradually, they grew into a sporting event, where many Serbs gathered in the region as participants and spectators. The tradition of the Nevesynsky Olympiad continued in Austria-Hungary , and in Yugoslavia it received the status of the Union competition, which was attended by athletes from all over the country.
