Biography
Born on October 5, 1940 in Brailov (now Vinnytsia region , Ukraine ). After graduating from a seven-year school, he entered a vocational school in the city of Makeevka ( Donetsk region ). Since 1957 he worked in construction as a fireman. In 1958, as a result of the explosion, he lost his eyesight and both hands. For two years he was cured at the Kiev Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, then he graduated from evening school for working youth.
In 1969 he graduated with honors from the philological faculty of KSU named after T. G. Shevchenko .
He was a literary school-studio "Kobza".
He died on December 2, 2001 . He was buried in Kiev at the Forest Cemetery .
Creativity
Started to print in 1960. Author of poetry collections:

- The Wag of the Word (1981),
- The Smell of Dalini (1982),

- "Nykrevnysha Ridna" (1999) and others.
The circle of V. Zabashtansky’s creative interests and hobbies is the work and life of a contemporary, the heroic manifestations of his character, courage, Korchaginsky traditions in the life of young people, selfless devotion to the communist idea.
He was engaged in translations of works by Azerbaijani, Armenian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Georgian, Kazakh, Latvian, Lithuanian, Moldavian, Russian, Tatar, Turkmen, Estonian authors.

- The State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR named after T. G. Shevchenko (1986) - for the collection of poems “The Smell Given” and new poems in periodicals.
- Prize of the Lenin Komsomol of Ukraine named after N. A. Ostrovsky (1974)
- Vladimir Svidzinsky Prize (2001).
