Biography

I did not receive a systematic education; I studied Church Slavonic at home. Until 1930, he worked in the sole peasant farm of his father, from 1930 to 1937 - on the collective farm.

In 1937-1941 he worked at a coal mine in the village of Barit-mine in the Guryev district of the Kemerovo region.

In 1941-1946 he served in the Soviet Army as an ordinary intelligence. The autobiography of July 9, 1964 reads: “In 1941 they took him into the army, in 1946 he was released from the labor of the army” - perhaps after the end of the war Samartsev served in the civil engineering forces.

In 1946-1948 he was a fastener at a coal mine in the village. Barite mine in the Guryev district of the Kemerovo region.

Since 1949 - a priest in the village. Ivan-Usensk Belebeyevsky district of the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.

He was married, widowed. Subsequently, two married daughters lived in the city of Solikamsk and in the city of Izhevsk.

In 1953 he was summoned to Moscow and June 13, 1953 ordained to the rank of Bishop of Belebeyevsky and Beloretsky by the Primate of the Russian Old Orthodox Church (Novozybkovsky Archbishopric), Archbishop John (Kalinin) and Bishop Epiphanius (Abramov) , after which he served in the church of der.
