No decompression limit

No decompression limit ( English No Decompression Limit , NDL ) - the point in time after reaching which the rise from depth to the surface requires stops to release the inert gas accumulated in the tissues - step decompression . Depends on the following factors:

  • depth of immersion;
  • time spent at a given depth;
  • length of stay on the surface after the last dive;
  • accumulated inert gas, such as nitrogen after a series of dives (if committed);
  • ambient temperature (water)
  • surface heights
  • heights above sea level (in the mountains).

There are other factors that affect the value of the no-decompression limit, but they are often not taken into account when diving, as they are purely individual.

A series of dives is understood to mean two or more dives, between which there were intervals insufficient to release excess inert gas from the body.

In 2005 , NAUI introduced a two-minute stop at half depth in deep non-decompression dives. This rule was the result of numerous experiments and an increasingly stronger opinion of scientists that there can be no decompression diving in principle.

Decompression tables have been developed for decompression-free dives, which indicate the time until the decompression limit is reached depending on the depth of the dive, as well as the conditions under which it becomes desirable to perform a safety stop .
