History
Doosan Group was founded in 1896 . [7] The company started as a store in 1896 in Seoul . Since then, Doosan has evolved into a multinational, diversified business empire, with a special focus on consumer goods, manufacturing, and trade and construction.
Doosan developed a new global growth strategy through the acquisition of several large companies over the past 10 years, including Doosan Heavy Industries (formerly Korea Heavy Industries, a heavy machinery company specializing in desalination plants) in 2001 , Koryeo in 2004 and Doosan Infracore (formerly Daewoo Heavy Industries, a company specializing in construction equipment) in 2005 .
In 2006, Doosan acquired a number of global companies, including the engineering company Mitsui Babcock (renamed Doosan Babcock) and Kvaerner IMGB, the largest casting and forging company in Romania. In 2007, Doosan acquired the leading construction equipment companies - Bobcat USA, the world's largest supplier of small construction equipment. Following the acquisition of Bobcat USA in Doosan Infracore, one of the subsidiaries of the Doosan Group, specializing in medium and large construction machines, Doosan Group became the seventh largest supplier of construction equipment in the world. [7] Doosan currently has 25 subsidiaries in Korea and 86 overseas branches in 35 countries. Doosan has over 38,000 employees (20,000 in Korea and 18,000 overseas) and a worldwide network of more than 1,400 dealers. [7]
Key Activities
Doosan business is mainly based on IMC (Business Infrastructure Support). Doosan's infrastructure consists of six subsidiaries: Doosan Corporation, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, Doosan Infracore, Doosan Engineering & Construction and Doosan Engine. These subsidiaries are designed to provide people with electricity, desalinated drinking water, construction equipment, advanced equipment, defense supplies, houses, roads and bridges, chemical equipment and industrial engines. Doosan now has core technologies for boilers, turbines and generators (BTG) - the three key components of modern fossil fuels. It now positions the company in the same league as GE in the USA, Siemens from Germany and Alstom in France. [5] According to FT (Financial Times, a British business newspaper) report on September 29, 2010 , through a series of major acquisitions, Doosan Heavy became the fourth largest power installer and equipment manufacturer in the world, behind General Electric in the USA, Germany Siemens and ABB, Swiss Swedish engineering group. [four]
DICE (Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment, the Global Alliance of Building Brands, which includes Doosan, Bobcat and Moxy Doosan) took 6th place in 2010 in the ranking of the 50 largest manufacturers of construction equipment in the world. [8]
Nuclear and other energy equipment
Doosan supplies equipment consisting of drive control elements (CEDMs) and reactors in Palo Verde to a nuclear power plant in Tonopah, Arizona, which has 1,400 MW of capacity. NPP equipment was sold to the largest nuclear power generation facilities in the United States. The reactor is used to maintain the pressure resistance of the coolant, while CEDM is a device used to control the degree of nuclear reaction. [9] Doosan will supply equipment for two AP1000s units to be built in Georgia. Taking into account the approvals, two units are planned to be commissioned in 2016 and 2017.
Chinese market
Doosan announced at the end of May 2008 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and on cooperation in new nuclear power projects in China. Among the projects commissioned by CNNC in China, Doosan supplies steam generators for Qinshan, reactors for Qinshan, as well as equipment for two AP1000 power units at Sanmen and two at Haiyang.
