Gameplay
The main part of the gameplay TearRing Saga is devoted to battles on a two-dimensional map, the player commands a detachment of fighters, to complete the battle you need to achieve a certain goal. Between battles, the player sees a global map of the world and can move around it for the further passage of the game. There are two main characters in the game, Runan and Holmes. The player must divide his army into two parts, each character will be subject to its own army. Runan's campaign consists of a series of scenarios where he fights against the Empire. However, you can ignore the plot scenarios and begin to collect treasures, increase the strength of the army, in parallel with the Holmes campaign.
For most of the game, two armies travel separately. They meet several times, and at this time they can exchange characters and objects. This allows the use of units that trained in the Runan army for the Holmes army, or vice versa.
Script
The game takes place on the continent of Riberia ( Jap. リ ー ベ リ ア Ri: Beria ) , whose territory was divided between the four kingdoms. These kingdoms were destroyed by the evil Zoa Empire ( ゾ ー ア 帝国 Zo: a teikoku ) and its ruler, the devil worshiper. A period of instability began on the continent, and it plunged into darkness.
The Kingdom of Rive ( リ ー ヴ ェ 王国 Ri: ve o: koku ) is one of the four kingdoms of Riberia. It consisted of several principalities. The prince of one of the principalities called Razeliya ( Jap. ラ ゼ リ ア ) was one of the main characters, Runan ( Jap. リ ュ ナ ン Runan ) . After the fall of the principality, where his father ruled, Runan fled and wanted to hide in a small port city. However, this city also fell into the hands of the Empire. Then Runan and Holmes ( Jap. ホ ー ム ズ ) , the prince of another principality, retreated to the new kingdom of Welt ( Jap. ウ エ ル ト 王国 Ueruto o: koku ) along with a small detachment of soldiers. The Walt King gave them his support. So the two heroes began their journey to destroy the evil Empire.

Litigation
The game's development manager was Shouzo Kaga, a former employee of Intelligent Systems and creator of the Fire Emblem series . Because of this, the game turned out to be very similar to the games in the Fire Emblem series . Intelligent Systems and Nintendo's Fire Emblem publisher did not like it, they expressed their dissatisfaction with a lawsuit against Enterbrain and Tirnanog in July 2001. Defendants were charged with copyright infringement [3] . The first trial ended in November 2002. Tokyo City Court rejected the claims of Nintendo. [4] Nintendo filed an appeal, the second trial began three months after the first, this time in the Tokyo Supreme Court . The second trial ended in November 2004, and the court ordered Enterbrain to pay Nintendo 76 million yen in favor of Nintendo. [5] However, the game was not banned as a violation of copyright and remained in stores [5] . Nintendo and Intelligent Systems filed another appeal with the Supreme Court of Japan , where the decision of the previous court was upheld [6] . The last trial was completed in April 2005.
The release of the Tear Ring Saga was announced in 2000, and at that time it was called Emblem Saga , but the name was changed when Nintendo threatened to appeal to the court [7] .
Ratings
Japanese magazine Famitsu rated the game at 32 points out of 40 [8] .
