Biography

Born in 1846 in the village of Sokovnino, Chernsky district, Tula province (now Plavsky district, Tula region ) in the family of an Orthodox priest. In addition to Vasily, the sisters of Alexander , Evdokia , Praskovya were brought up in the family; brothers - Ivan and Peter.

He graduated from the Belevsk Theological College and the Tula Theological Seminary.

In 1868 he entered Moscow University , and then transferred to Petersburg at the Imperial Medical and Surgical Academy . He was arrested in connection with the case of the "Nechevays" on January 12, 1870 on charges of belonging to the "Siberian circle" and released on January 31 of that year.

In 1870 - 1871 he took an active part in student circles; was in close relationship with the circle of Sophia Ginzburg and the " Tchaikovsky "; He was a representative of the library student commission and organized at the library of the Medical and Surgical Academy a "book section" and a department for the sale of populist literature.

In the summer of 1872 he took part in the organization of secret libraries in Tula and in other cities.

In the summer of 1873 he was the organizer of the "commune" at Rezvoe Manor ( Shlisselburg Uyezd, St. Petersburg Province ); On September 3 of that year, a “commune” was searched, due to suspicions of political unreliability of its members. He was under the secret surveillance of the Police Department.

In 1874 he graduated from the Medical and Surgical Academy; was searched again on March 20, 1874 .

He served as a zemstvo doctor in the village of Shemetovo ( Aleksandrovsky district, Vladimir province ). Arrested in February 1875 in connection with the production of an inquiry in the case of propaganda in the empire (“the process of one hundred ninety-three ”), due to a slip of the tongue by A. V. Nizovkin.

He was transferred to Petersburg and on February 21, 1875 he was imprisoned in the Peter and Paul Fortress , from where on May 16 of the same year he was transferred to the police unit.

On February 19, 1876, at the highest order, the case about him was resolved administratively with the institution behind him, due to relations with propagandists, of special police supervision.

He was involved in an inquiry in the case of unlawful propaganda (the “ 50 trial ”), but by the highest order on November 11, 1876, the case about him was terminated due to a lack of evidence.

He moved to Moscow, conducted propaganda among workers along with Vsevolod Ionov , Peter Alekseev and Viktor Obnorsky and was arrested again in February 1876.

On January 1, 1877, he fled from arrest from the Basmanny prison house and emigrated from Russia abroad.

In 1877 or 1878 he moved to Romania , where he was engaged in private medical practice in Sulin and Tulce under the name of Peter Alexandrov.

He was the central figure of the Russian emigration in Romania and took part in the revolutionary movement in Russia.

He died on August 11, 1911 in Bucharest from liver disease [1] .
