NextGen Series 2012/2013

NextGen Series 2012/13 - 2nd draw of NextGen Series , a tournament for youth teams of European clubs made up of players under 19 years of age. The winner of the tournament was the English club Aston Villa , who beat Chelsea’s compatriots in the final at the Giuseppe Cinigalle Stadium in Como , Italy . The top scorers were the attackers of the finalist teams Graham Burke of Aston Villa and Islam Feruz of Chelsea, respectively. Chelsea player Lewis Baker was recognized as the best player of the tournament.

Format

Unlike last season , instead of 16 teams, 24 teams take part in the tournament. They were divided into 6 groups of 4, where they played with each other in a two-round scheme. The two best teams from each group and 4 teams that scored the most points among the runners-up went into the 1/8 finals. In the playoff stage, one match is played. There will also be played a match for third place.

Commands

Of the 16 clubs that played in the first season, 15 participate in the new draw. The Swiss Basel declined the invitation to re-participate. The list of participants reflects the representation of the first teams in the UEFA Champions League .
