Mingiyan Semenov began to engage in Greco-Roman wrestling from the age of 9 under the guidance of Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kalmykia Zambaev Buda Ubushaevich. In 2005 he entered the Moscow School of Olympic Reserve No. 1.
