Biography
Born in the family of a wealthy peasant Nikifor Oshevnya. At birth he was named Alexei. At the age of 19 he took monastic tonsure in the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery with the name Alexander. After his father moved to the north, where he founded a settlement, he was blessed to create a new monastery. First, a cross was erected, then the church of St. Nicholas and the monastery with him were built, around which the brethren gathered. Alexander was sympathetic to hesychasm : sacred silence and Jesus prayer were practiced in the community. Alexander survived a difficult family conflict with his brother Ambrose, who opposed the tonsure of his sons as a monk. As a result of this discord, Alexander was seriously ill, but was miraculously healed in a dream by the appearance of St. Cyril of Belozersky .
After death, the life of Alexander was composed and the icons were painted. Rev. Alexander Oshevensky was of medium height, with a dry face and sunken cheeks, with a small and not thick beard, with gray hair in blond hair.
